Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, May 20, 2026

Dear Calvary family,

My favorite Sunday of the whole year is this Sunday. I hope you all know it. It is not because it will be a car race day. I can only imagine how exciting it is to be at the Indy 500. I realize that it is the world’s largest single-day sporting event, bringing together over 300,000 fans to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. What could be more exciting than to be at the racetrack watching superfast cars?

The answer is celebrating Pentecost Day. You are not only invited to be a spectator but also welcomed to be a participant. The cars may be going 220+ mph, but you will only be sitting on the bench and amazed by what others do. On Pentecost, I am inviting you to be a part of God’s most powerful wind and fire, the Holy Spirit dwelling in your innermost being. Come and see what God is doing when people gather together to pray.

The Holy Spirit comes with power and brings change. The violent wind moves things and moves people. The Holy Spirit brings peace, joy, and hope. The Holy Spirit brings comfort, strength, and courage. The Holy Spirit also brings uncomfortable changes. God is not a God of chaos. God brings the Wind of Change to make us bold and courageous for Christ’s Kingdom. The Holy Spirit is not going to ruin our lives, but will move us where we are equipped to live a life depending on Him and for Him.

Calvary has been a gift for my family and me. I love all of you. You have loved us. You have been our family. You have given me the encouragement, support, and courage these last three years to continue what God has called me to be and do since I was 12 years old. I am not leaving because of you. I am leaving because I believe that God is leading me in a new direction. God is at work. God is making new things for Calvary and for me.

In Isaiah, God says, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Is 43:18-19) In Revelation, we read, “And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also, he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”” (Rev 21:5)
Come on Pentecost and celebrate the new things God is creating. Be glad that He is working. God knows. God sees and He will accomplish what He has started. Have faith. Have courage to obey Him. He will not disappoint you.

I love you all.
Pastor Jolita

MAY VACATION
Pastor Michelle is on vacation this week. Please wish her well and pray for safe travels for her and for Eric while they are out of town.

KEEP OUR FLORA BEAUTIFUL…
Spring has sprung and we are in need of volunteers to care for our lovely outdoor flowers and plants on a regular basis. They need attention every other day. If you are able to give any amount of time to this ministry, please contact the church office or Brenda Caron for specifics.

…AND OUR GARDEN OF EATIN’
In addition to the flowers and plants around the church, we also have three very long rows of vegetables behind our playground. The produce grown there is harvested and brought to Messiah Lutheran’s or Cornerstone’s Food Pantries every Saturday morning. We can use all the help we can get with this throughout the summer months. Whether you might prefer to water, or if you don’t mind weeding and harvesting, your help would be appreciated. To find out more and get on the volunteer list for this, contact Lisa in the church office!

JOIN THE COLUMBARIUM COMMITTEE
Are you interested in learning more about the Columbarium and Memorial Gardens that are developing so beautifully outside the windows at church? A great way to learn more is to be a part of the committee! The committee meets only every other month at 4:00pm here at church to discuss items that come up, with the next meeting on August 4. If you’d like to find out more, contact Tom Hanna at skhtgh@tds.net today.

CLASSICS LUNCHEON
It’s a green flag for the luncheon Tuesday, May 26, at Noon in Fellowship Hall. The lunch will be themed around the Indy 500, so race on in with your friends and neighbors! Bring a favorite tailgating side or dessert and $5 to help cover the cost. RSVP with the office today or at the Mission table on Sunday!

FIRST MONDAY OF THE MONTH PRAYER TIME
Bring what’s on your heart and come for morning prayer in the sanctuary! See you on Monday, June 1, 6:30am.

COMMUNITY LUNCH – PULLED PORK
On the second Saturday of each month, we host our Community Lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through our local food pantries. We’d love to have you volunteer by donating, helping, and/or socializing at our next one on Saturday, June 13, from 11:00am til 1:00pm! Sign up at the Mission Table or contact the office. Hope to see you there!

COMMUNITY LUNCH SNACK BAGS
When we host the Community Lunch, we send a snack bag home with those who attend. We are running low on items, so if you would like to donate, we are looking for snacks that won’t melt in the heat. That would include items such as beef sticks, granola or protein bars, and fruit snacks. They may be dropped off in the box on the Mission Table.

MAY MISSION FOCUS
Our May monthly mission focus is our third annual LEGO Camp! This camp was created in place of the VBS camps of previous years and is extremely popular, using the theme of building and sharing our faith. Monies collected will help fund all the various parts of this outreach, including crafts, decorations, snacks, scholarships, and more! Thank you for your support and we’d love to have you join us! Find out more here…

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR LEGO CAMP!
In order for LEGO Camp to be a success, we need LOTS of volunteers! Those interested must be high school age or older. We are specifically needing several interested in leading a group. Please prayerfully consider helping in this way! If you are willing to lead a group, there will be teacher training on Saturday, June 20, 10am-11:30am or Sunday, June 28, 11:15am-12:45pm. A recent background check will be required for those 18 and older. Sign-up sheets are available at the Mission Table or contact the office. Volunteer registration deadline is June 15, 2026. Let’s make this the best LEGO Camp yet!

LEGO CAMP GIVING TREE
Our LEGO CAMP is coming soon, and we invite you to be a part of making it a meaningful and joyful experience for our children and youth! Through our Giving Tree, you have the opportunity to support LEGO Camp in a variety of ways:

  • Donate drinks and snacks
  • Contribute LEGOS
  • Sponsor a youth leader
  • Sponsor a camper
  • Provide craft supplies
  • Sponsor the live animal show
  • Make a financial donation
  • And more
To participate, simply take a leaf from the Giving Tree and sign up on the sheet located at the mission table. Please note “LEGO Camp” in the memo portion of your check. It costs approximately $8000 each summer to make LEGO Camp possible. Your generosity helps ensure that every child can experience a week filled with creativity, faith, and fun. Thank you for helping us build something special, one brick at a time. Any questions, please contact Anne at anneinman1@hotmail.com or contact the church office.

REGISTER KIDS FOR LEGO CAMP
Registration for LEGO Camp 2026 has begun! Tell you neighbors, family members, and friends who have 4-11 year-old students to join us July 20-22. Share the Sign-up here: https://calvaryunited.org/summer-camp/!

MESSIAH LUTHERAN’S FOOD PANTRY AND THE MEIJER “SIMPLY GIVE” SPRING CAMPAIGN
Our neighbor, Messiah Lutheran Church, has been given the opportunity to partner with the newly built Meijer store in Brownsburg. From May 6th, when the store opens, through June 27th, Meijer customers may add a “$10 Simply Give” donation card at checkout and all of the donations during this time will go only to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry. The donation is converted into a Meijer food-only gift card for the Food Pantry to purchase food.

Additionally, when done on Saturday, June 20th, for every $10 Simply Donation card a customer adds to their purchase on Meijer will DOUBLE MATCH the donation, adding an additional $20. That means Messiah’s Food Pantry will receive $30 for each Simply Give donation card purchased that day.
Important to note: Only cards purchased at the Brownsburg Meijer will go to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry. You can help us feed our neighbors in Brownsburg in this way. Please share this opportunity with your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives as every dollar will make a difference to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry.
