Here at Calvary United Methodist church our mission is “…to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We fulfill that mission through our vision to Seek God, Love One Another, and Reach Out as disciples of Jesus.

So what is a disciple? A disciple is more than being a student or learner. A disciple is more than simply a member of a church family. A disciple lives as a follower of Jesus.

“Therefore, discipleship is a lifelong journey into the abundant like Jesus desires for us. It is a process of continued development (sanctification by and through God’s grace) through which we grow in maturity (become Christ-centered or fully surrendered or moving on to perfection). There are three broad dimensions to the life of a disciple: belonging to the Body of Christ, becoming more like Jesus, and blessing the world.

Re-read Matthew 4:19 for a biblical model of this. There is no one size fits all for discipleship, yet these three dimensions – being part of the body of Christ, becoming more like Jesus, and joining Jesus in ministry- are lived out… ” as we seek God, love one another and reach out! (Phil Maynard Becoming a Discipleship Coach pp 19-20).

We believe that the Holy Spirit prompts and leads persons into deeper discipleship. Sometimes life changes spur folks for deeper spiritual growth.

If we are eager to spend eternity with Jesus, why not get to know Him better now? He offers eternal life and life abundant even in the midst of this finite earthly existence.

Discipleship is about your relationship with Jesus. Discipleship is not a graduation; not a checklist; not transactional, but relational. Being a disciple of Jesus is not a “get out of hell free card”, but a lifestyle. Being a disciple of Jesus is not just about being a member of a congregation, but it is more about living a vibrant, purposeful life.

Disciples belong to Jesus. Disciples become like Jesus. Disciples give like Jesus. Discipleship is being a follower of Jesus with a life of obeying God, a life of service, a life of generosity, a life of opening to God, a life of hospitality, and a life of worship.

Here at Calvary, we are a congregation of disciple makers who seek God, love one another, and reach out.

Disciples, as they live as Jesus, ‘showed up’ in many places, situations, and circumstances.
