Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, June 17, 2026
Dear Calvary Family,
Do you remember Halloween right after the Disney movie FROZEN came out back in 2013 or so? We had snow in central Indiana! Snow in October!
I thought the snow was probably a direct result of all the thousands of little girls wearing Elsa costumes singing, “Let it Go!” We are not in a movie nor are we close to having snow in June, but we are letting go so that we can move forward.
As we navigate change in which God is sovereign, we discover that in order to move forward, there is a letting go so that we can embrace the new. It’s what I call the “spiritual ‘baton’ handoff”. And just like the track team needs to practice and drill the handoff, so too can we lean into our spiritual disciplines and practice letting go to embrace new. The Apostle Paul is so insightful and helpful as he writes from prison, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if at some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.” (Philippians 3:12-16).
Join us in person or online this Sunday on Father’s Day as we practice together the spiritual act of letting go to embrace the new.
With the eyes of our hearts enlightened by the hope who is Jesus the Christ,
Pastor Michelle
Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:

MEN’S BREAKFAST
Our next men’s group breakfast will be held in Fellowship Hall this Saturday, June 20, at 9:00am. Join them for good food, coffee, a devotional moment and lively conversation! This month’s menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, fruit, juice, coffee. All are welcome! (Don’t worry if you didn’t sign up!) Bring a favorite tool to informally share with others…. seems like a men’s group kinda thing! Coffee will be ready at 8:30am!
DISCIPLESHIP SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITY
Last week, a letter was emailed regarding the start of Discipleship Small Groups. There is still room for YOU! We believe God continues to call us deeper into community, spiritual growth, and intentional discipleship, and these groups are designed to create space for meaningful connection, encouragement, and growth in faith.
Each group will include approximately 5–6 participants and will meet for 90 minutes each week for a total of 25 weeks.
If you are interested in participating and want to ask questions before you commit, or if you feel God’s nudge and know you would like to participate, please reply to Robyn Maynard directly at robyn92361@gmail.com by June 22nd with your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice from the following options:
● Tuesday evenings from 7:00–8:30 PM, starting June 30 (facilitator: Ron Jerome) Openings available
● Sunday mornings from 7:30–9:00 AM, starting July 19 (facilitators: Patrick Scherer and Diane Brown) Openings available
● Thursday mornings from 8:00–9:30 AM, starting August 6 (facilitators: Anne Inman and Karen Rigsbee)
We will do our best to accommodate preferences while creating balanced groups that foster meaningful connection and growth. If you feel God’s nudging and would prefer to talk with someone 1:1 about discipleship or engage in 1:1 discipleship coaching, please share that with Robyn.
We are excited for what God is doing through discipleship in our congregation and would love for you to prayerfully consider being part of this journey!
MESSIAH LUTHERAN’S FOOD PANTRY AND MEIJER “SIMPLY GIVE” SPRING CAMPAIGN
Our neighbor, Messiah Lutheran Church, has been given the opportunity to partner with the newly built Meijer store in Brownsburg. Through June 27th, Meijer customers may add a “$10 Simply Give” donation card at checkout and all of the donations during this time will go only to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry. The donation is converted into a Meijer food-only gift card for the Food Pantry to purchase food. NOTE: This is not a physical gift card you are purchasing.
**Additionally, when done on this Saturday, June 20th, for every $10 Simply Donation card a customer adds to their purchase on Meijer will DOUBLE MATCH the donation, adding an additional $20. That means Messiah’s Food Pantry will receive $30 for each Simply Give donation card purchased that day!**
Important to note: Only cards purchased at the Brownsburg Meijer will go to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry. You can help us feed our neighbors in Brownsburg in this way. Please share this opportunity with your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives as every dollar will make a difference to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry.
SUMMER CHOIR
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Summer Choir is a wonderful, low-commitment opportunity to sing together during the summer months. We will meet on alternating Sunday mornings at 9:00 am to learn an anthem that we will sing during the 10:00 am worship service. There are no Wednesday evening rehearsals through the summer.
Our Summer Choir dates are:
• June 28
• July 26
• August 9
• August 23
Please note that there will be no Summer Choir on July 12 or September 6.
We will resume our regular Wednesday evening rehearsals on September 9.
Signing up is not required during the summer! Feel free to invite friends to join us as well. Everyone is welcome.
ALTAR GUILD
The seasonal banners and decorations in the Sanctuary are put in place by our Altar Guild. This group meets as needed, typically on a weekday morning seasonally, to do this. They would love a few more hands to help with this. If interested, please contact the office or Beth Schermer.
CLASSICS LUNCHEON
Meet us for lunch on Tuesday, June 30 and celebrate the 250th year of freedom and independence! Bring a friend and your favorite 4th of July side or treat! RSVP by contacting the office today!
BROWNSBURG SCHOOLS’ FASTTRACK
We will be collecting pencils again this year for Brownsburg schools’ FastTrack program which helps families in need prepare for the school year. As you shop in stores or online, please consider purchasing pencils. A collection box will be on the Mission table until July 12. The school has asked that they be bundled in packs of 12, so if you’d like to do that ahead of dropping them off, that would be appreciated although not required.
Also, if you’re interested in helping in some way, you may sign up here to help sort: Fast Track Volunteers: Fast Track 2026 – Opening and Sorting Supplies, or here to help the day of: Fast Track Volunteers: Fast Track Volunteers 2026- Saturday, July 25, 2026 Thank you for sharing in this way!
JUNE MISSION FOCUS
This month’s mission giving will go to the Pastors’ Discretionary Fund. These gifts are used to help when unforeseen needs arise.
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR LEGO CAMP! NOTE TRAINING DATE CHANGE
In order for LEGO Camp to be a success, we need LOTS of volunteers! Those interested must be high school age or older. NOTE: Registration has been temporarily closed and a waitlist started as we are in need of more adult group leaders if we are to accept more students. Please consider helping in this way so that we can do that! If you are willing to lead a group, there will be teacher training on Sunday, June 28, 11:15am-12:45pm or Saturday, July 11, 10:00am – 11:30am. A recent background check will be required for those 18 and older. Sign-up sheets are available at the Mission Table or contact the office. Volunteer registration deadline has been extended to June 22, 2026. Let’s make this the best LEGO Camp yet!
LEGO CAMP GIVING TREE
Our LEGO Camp giving tree is still “ripe for the picking”! There are a few items left for purchase.
To participate, simply take a leaf from the Giving Tree and sign up on the sheet located at the mission table. Please note “LEGO Camp” in the memo portion of your check. It costs approximately $8000 each summer to make LEGO Camp possible. Your generosity helps ensure that every child can experience a week filled with creativity, faith, and fun. Thank you for helping us build something special, one brick at a time. Please turn in all donations by Sunday, June 28th. Financial donations will be accepted through July 26, 2026. (Please note LEGO Camp in the memo portion of your check.) Any questions, please contact Anne at anneinman1@hotmail.com or contact the church office.
CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our Children and Youth Sunday School Classes have ended for the summer. If you are interested in helping as a Sunday School teacher with either group starting in August, please contact the office today! (Office@CalvaryUnited.org)
COMMUNITY LUNCH – FRIED CHICKEN
On the second Saturday of each month, we host our Community Lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through our local food pantries. We’d love to have you volunteer by donating, helping, and/or socializing at our next one on Saturday, July 11, from 11:00am til 1:00pm! Sign up at the Mission Table or contact the office. Hope to see you there!
A GIFT BAG CONNECTED TO THE LUNCH
When we host the Community Lunch, we send a bag home with those who attend. While we currently have enough snacks for the bags, we would like to be able to add in some small toiletries as well. If you are willing to contribute those, they may be dropped off in the box on the Mission Table.
