Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, July 30, 2025

Dear Calvary Family,

During August we begin a fresh sermon series that brings us “Back to School” in our study of the Bible. We will explore various genres of sacred scripture in the Bible such as history/law, prophecy, writing, gospel and letters. You will hear sermons preached from some books you may have never heard of or never really paid attention to. It will be so enriching! (And a challenge for your pastors!)

While we explore five different books which each represent a different kind of sacred writing style and content, Pastor Jolita and I are also going to introduce to you five different personal Bible study methods. There will be handouts each week in the bulletins for you to take home so that you can explore a different method on your own. Together you will be introduced to the SOAP method, theological method, journalistic method, lectio divina, and verse mapping for your personal Bible study. Your pastors want to give you tools for deepening your faith.

We are PEOPLE of the BOOK because this is one of our truest and best resources to meet THE Source of Life: Jesus! All of us need to get to know the Bible better. And more than that, as we read the scriptures, we find our lives ‘read’ in the scriptures as we unlearn what we do not need to carry and we relearn who we are called to be as followers of Jesus.

See you in “school” this Sunday as we dig into history/law in the amazing book of Leviticus! Bring your backpacks for blessing as we dine at the table of Holy Communion together.

Let us continue to Hear the Word and Do (live out) the Word together,
Pastor Michelle

Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:

YOUTH GROUP TRIP – THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 3
To celebrate summer together, the youth will be heading to Sugar Creek to go canoeing on Sunday, August 3, leaving right after worship. Bring a lunch and plan on having it there and spending a few hours in the water. Questions, contact Pastor Jolita.

BIBLE STUDY FOR “NEWBIES” – STARTS TUESDAY
Here’s a Bible Study for adults who have never done a Bible Study before! And, it works with our August Sermon Series: “Back to School: The BIBLE”. Beginners and novices join Pastor Michelle with your Bible and a willingness to try something new on five Tuesdays: August 5, 12, 19, 26 and September 2 in the Conference Room from 10:00-11:30am.

THE NEXT MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
We will be starting a study on the Letter of James Monday, September 8 at 10:00am in the Conference Room. If you’d like to join us, contact the office today.

SHARE YOUR TIME THIS WAY
The next school year is quickly approaching and we will be resuming our Sunday School classes for Kindergarten through 5th grade and for 6th through 12th grade on August 10. We would love to have you share your time in this fun way for 45 minutes after church once a month or so. Contact the office (office@CalvaryUnited.org or 317-852-2541) to find out more!

RECAP MEETING FOR LEGO CAMP
All leaders and volunteers are invited to meet for a time of celebration for this year’s camp and an opportunity to make suggestions for next year’s camp on Sunday, August 17, at 11:15 in Fellowship Hall. Note down your thoughts, bring them along and join us. If you cannot make it, please feel free to share your thoughts in an email to Office@CalvaryUnited.org.

KEEP SUMMER GIVING STRONG
While many of us travel and have busy activities during the summer, we need you to keep your financial giving strong to the operating and mortgage funds during the summer months. Ministry continues even while each of us travels. Thank you for your generosity!

INFANT & TODDLER FAMILY FELLOWSHIP
Saturday, August 9, from 3:00-5:00pm is our next get-together. We will have time for the infants in the nursery, the toddlers in fellowship hall, and the parents in the youth room, wrapping up with family activities together. Our guest speaker for the parents will be Bethany Irvine who specializes in children’s anxiety and grief. Spread the word for this quality time!

AUGUST MONTHLY MISSION
Our mission focus for August is Family Promise, an organization that is very important to us and to Hendricks County. Its work is based on transforming the lives of those struggling locally, providing housing and stability services, along with many other resources. Find out more at https://familypromisehendrickscounty.org/.

REMEMBERING CHRIS TJELMELAND
The family of Chris invites you to celebrate her life with them on Saturday, August 16 between noon and 2:00pm in Fellowship Hall. Please join us!

CALVARY COOKBOOK
The Kindness Kitchen Cookbook is coming soon! Interested? Pre-order one today… no payment until pickup! Email the church office (office@CalvaryUnited.org) and we’ll add you to the list. We have five recipes that were separated from the name of who submitted it. Do you recognize any of these as something you might’ve submitted? Please contact the church office if you do. Easy Breakfast Strata, Nashville House Fried Biscuits, Shepherd’s Pie, Campbell’s Chicken Broccoli Alfredo, and Blackened Mahi-Mahi Taco Bowl.

GRIEFSHARE
We will once again be offering GriefShare, a support group to help you move through the grief process. It will begin on Wednesday, August 27, at 10:00am in the Conference Room here at church and will continue for 13 weeks. A GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. Through this, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability – and gain solid support each step of the way. If you would like to attend, please contact the church office. (office@CalvaryUnited.org or 317-852-2541)
