Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, July 29, 2026
Dear Calvary Family,
Seven times in the Gospel of John Jesus declares something powerfully unique and Divine about Himself. We know these as the “I Am” sayings. But these are more than just sayings. These are self-portraits that connect Jesus with the Divine revelation of God who spoke to Moses back in Exodus when the bush did not burn.
Our God in Jesus is so good to desire connection with each of us! As Jesus seeks to communicate about His Divine Self, He uses everyday things such as bread, light, door, shepherd, resurrection & life, way, truth & life, and vines. These common everyday things have deeper and more significant meaning to reveal about who Jesus is and what He is about in our lives. Thus, these “I Am” portraits are all about connection, communication, and communion (or relationship).
As Pastor Kamau and I have begun meeting, praying, and working together in ministry, we have purposefully chosen this sermon series as our first to share together because we desire to learn and know more about Jesus. Moreover, our intention for you, our congregation, is to know and see Jesus through our pastoral leadership, in one another, and in others who we have not yet met.
We begin this Sunday which is also a Holy Communion Sunday with BREAD! Can’t wait to see you in worship or online as the Bread of Life feeds us all that we need.

PASTOR KAMAU VACATION
Pastor Kamau will be on vacation July 30 through August 5 as he and his wife will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this week.
LEGO CAMP RECAP MEETING
Thank you to all who shared time, talent, AND ENERGY with the children who attended Camp this year. This third one was the best yet because of you! We had 130 campers, along with 20 youth and 30 adult volunteers. Ahead of planning for next year, we would love to hear from those who participated. If you were involved in any way with the camp, plan now to meet Sunday, August 2 in Fellowship Hall following the service at 11:15 to share your thoughts for 2027.
FIRST MONDAY MORNING PRAYER
This coming Monday is August 3 and it is the first Monday of the month. Bring your morning drink and join us in the sanctuary at 6:30am for a special time of prayer to start the day, the week, and the month.
SUNDAY MORNING HELP NEEDED ASAP!
As summer begins, we are looking for adult and youth volunteers to help in both the AV Booth or in the nursery during a Sunday service. Training will be provided! If you’d like to find out more about either opportunity, please contact the office today! office@CalvaryUnited.org or 317-852-2541.
THE GARDEN OF EATIN’ NUMBERS
The twenty-three garden beds out back have been producing well! Matt Striegel and Girl Scout leader, Abby Danner, have been devoting hours to harvesting, weeding, and watering! When you see them, be sure to thank them! If you’re interested in numbers, these are the approximate amounts contributed to the Cornerstone and Messiah Lutheran Saturday food pantries so far this year: 16 pounds of Radishes, 23 pounds of Lettuce, 55 pounds of Carrots and 3 pounds stew carrots, 14 pounds of Potatoes, 4 pounds of Onions, 45 pounds of Yellow Squash, 4 pounds of Swiss Chard, 8 pounds of Beets, 10 pounds of Cucumbers, 10 pounds of Peppers, 4 pounds of Tomatoes, 8 heads of Cauliflower.
YOUTH GROUP KICKOFF

AUGUST MISSION FOCUS – FAMILY PROMISE OF HENDRICKS COUNTY
Our mission focus for August is Family Promise, an organization that is very important to us and to Hendricks County. Every month, more than 350 families contact Family Promise of Hendricks County seeking help with housing and other basic needs. Family Promise is Calvary’s go to resource when we receive crisis calls. Thanks to your generosity, Calvary has made a real difference through financial support, food deliveries, furniture donations, gas cards, bicycles, Christmas gifts, volunteer service, fundraising events, and countless acts of kindness and prayer. The need continues to grow. During the month of August, we invite you to make a special mission gift to Family Promise. Your generosity will help families move from crisis to stability and from homelessness to hope. MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY RESUMES IN AUGUST
Pastor Michelle’s Monday Morning Bible study will resume August 31. We will study Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. It will be a 12-week class (August 31 to November 30, skipping September 7 and October 12) from 10:00am-11:30am in the Conference Room. Let us know if you need a book ordered. Cost for the book is $20.00. If paying by check, please include “Monday morning Bible study book” in the memo.
BAKING DISHES FOUND
Various containers and baking dishes have been left in the kitchen. If something might belong to you, please check the “Lost and Found” box outside of the church office.
COMMUNITY LUNCH – SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS
On the second Saturday of each month, we host our Community Lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through our local food pantries. We’d love to have you volunteer by donating, helping, and/or socializing at our next one on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00am til 1:00pm! Check out the Missions table for details. Hope to see you there!
COMMUNITY LUNCH – SNACK BAG NEED
At the Community Lunch, we like to send everyone home with a snack bag. We are in need of granola bars, beef sticks, and trail mix for that. If you are able to help out in this way, please drop them off in the church office or in the church kitchen. Thank you for your generosity!
SUMMER CHOIR
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Summer Choir is a wonderful, low-commitment opportunity to sing together during the summer months. We will meet on alternating Sunday mornings at 9:00 am to learn an anthem that we will sing during the 10:00 am worship service. There are no Wednesday evening rehearsals through the summer. The upcoming Sundays are August 9 and August 23.
Please note that there will be no Summer Choir September 6. We will resume our regular Wednesday evening rehearsals on September 9. Signing up is not required during the summer! Feel free to invite friends to join us as well. Everyone is welcome.
CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our Children and Youth Sunday School Classes will resume on Sunday, August 9, 2026! If you are interested in helping as a Sunday School teacher with either group, please contact the office today. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
CANS OF SODA
The Craft Fair may seem like a long way off, but hopefully you’ve got it on your calendar already! (October 10!) We are once again planning to sell donated 12oz cans of (only) Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite. If you would like to donate, why not take advantage of the sales that happen around Labor Day? We will collect and store your donations here. Thank you for helping in this way!
