Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, February 18, 2026
Dear Calvary Family,
LENT begins TODAY! This evening as we gather in worship at Pittsboro UMC for our combined worship service, we will wear a sign of our mortality and sin as we put on ashes. You will be invited into this season of reflection and self-examination. And so, why do we do all this?
Because we realize our own power is limited. We are finite. We are mortal. What we try to do never quite gets us to where and how we want things to be. In other words, our smallness has met God’s infinite glory and splendor. Instead of being stymied or reduced by this awareness; we find ourselves grateful for the powerful expanse of our God in Christ!
And God’s power is what we truly need. Power not from ourselves, but from God’s good news who is Jesus.
The Power of the Gospel is our sermon focus during Lent. Together, we will consider amazing moments in which Jesus’ actions and speech displayed the Almighty Power of who He is and what He does.
Sunday, February 22, we will consider Forgiver Power! Our culture and our world like to send us down the paths of blame and shame. It is all they offer us. Instead, Jesus offers us forgiveness because He can do that… and His forgiveness works within us in such a way that we can forgive others and ourselves. If He didn’t offer this power, blame would block our relationships keeping us forever estranged from ourselves, one another, and God.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE
Worship with our brothers and sisters at Pittsboro UMC (located at 227 E. Main St. Pittsboro) tonight for our shared Ash Wednesday Service at 7:00pm. Please note that this will NOT be in our sanctuary.
MEN’S BREAKFAST
Our new Men’s Ministry is kicking off with a breakfast this Saturday, February 21st at 9am in Fellowship Hall. Plan to join them for hearty conversation and warm food. Contact the church office to RSVP or sign up in the hallway at the Mission table. If you’d like to help set-up or cook as well, please let us know that, too!
LENTEN BREAKFAST SERIES
Each year, area Methodist church members meet for breakfast and move through the Lenten season together. Beginning this Saturday, February 21, at 8:30am, join them at Plainfield UMC, 600 Simmons St, Plainfield, for this event. The following Saturday, February 28, plan to meet at Avon UMC, 6850 E US Hwy, Avon.
CLASSICS LUNCHEON
Plan now to attend our Valentine Luncheon this coming Tuesday, February 24, at noon. Bring a friend or two! We’ll meet in Fellowship Hall and celebrate with Italian cuisine. RSVP with the office today!
FEBRUARY’S MONTHLY MISSION
The Mission focus for this coming month is our Youth’s mission work. Like in years past, they have gone on Mission trips to places like Mountain T.O.P. to do service projects and share the Word. Your gifts will support their work there for this year.
KITCHEN CLEAN-UP
With as busy as our kitchen is, we do need to do a serious clean-up from time to time, which includes organizing as well. Have a few minutes to share in that on Sunday, March 8? Come when you can and stay as long as you can. We will begin as fellowship time winds down and expect to be there until about 3:00. We’d love any amount of time you can give!
SPRING BLOOD DRIVE

COMMUNITY LUNCH – A NEW OUTREACH FOR EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN
We have started a new mission project on the second Saturday of each month and we need you to be here for this! We will be hosting lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through the local food pantries. Chili is on the menu for Saturday, March 14 at noon.
