Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, October 14, 2026

Dear Calvary family,
We are The Letter 2 Corinthians 3:1-6
Every resumé contains a list of references whose work it is to write letters recommending the candidate to their employer. This was also a common tradition during Paul’s time whereby a preacher arriving in town would bring such a letter from their community saying they were legit. Paul had none. He tells the Corinthians they were his letter. Their transformed lives from his preaching testified that he was a servant of God. He extends this to each of us saying that “we are the letter” that is living because the message of God’s salvation is written in our hearts unlike the dead letters written on tablets.

This week’s sermon explores the third leg of Calvary’s motto, Reach Out. The theme, You Are the Letter, invites each of us to examine what people get out of it when they read the novel of our life. If every single second of our life was journalized or a camera gave a live feed, do we suppose that someone would read or watch and say, “ you are what I need in my life and I want my life to copy yours?” This resembles the saying associated with St Francis of Assisi, “preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words.”

To consider the weighty message that Paul’s words communicate to us, this sermon will address three items. Firstly, what is it that makes us a living reference letter and distinguishes us from the dead letters? Secondly, if the evidence of a living letter is the fruitfulness it causes on the readers, what are the clues in scripture for ensuring that our lives are authentic, public and transparent, a walking love letter billboard? And thirdly, how will people know that our letter is internal, written deep in our heart and not some external paraphernalia we wear for public convenience and send it off when the show is done?

Sharing in your living letters,
Pastor Kamau
