Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, July 22, 2026
Dear Calvary Family,
The marvelous design of LEGO bricks is that they are designed to hold together and then unfasten to make something new or different. The nature of the historic LEGO patent was a utility patent covering a functional mechanical element: the stud-and-tube coupling system. It really is an engineering marvel! This design allows a child or adult at-play to rebuild and re-create something.
The amazing design of our Creator God is that we are made to be “rebuilt” as well. Yes, people are made in the image of our Good Gracious God. And also, yes, God gave us free will to choose well and His ways or not. Because we often choose the wrong thing, or are selfish, or stray from God’s good purpose for us, one might think we are doomed or stuck in our old, unhealthy sinful patterns. But that is not true! God’s design also means we can choose to have Christ rebuild us in His image through the person and power of the Holy Spirit.
So yes, our sanctuary, hallways and classrooms have been filled all week with teeny, tiny LEGO bricks! Yes, we have sung, danced, snacked, played, and created our way through LEGO projects, but in all of that creative play we have been teaching and talking about how God’s grace, forgiveness, and mercy rebuild us in Christ!
Join us this Sunday for all the LEGO play, but more so for the celebration of just what the power of the Holy Spirit can do in your life, my life, and in the lives of 130 children and 50 adults and teen helpers!
With the eyes of our hearts enlightened by the hope who is Jesus the Christ,
Pastor Michelle
Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:
SUNDAY MORNING HELP NEEDED ASAP!
As summer begins, we are looking for adult and youth volunteers to help in both the AV Booth or in the nursery during a Sunday service. Training will be provided! If you’d like to find out more about either opportunity, please contact the office today! Office@CalvaryUnited.org or 317-852-2541.
LEGO CELEBRATION
We will be celebrating a wonderful Camp week during this Sunday’s service. Following the service, we’ll have a special time in the Shelter (located behind the playground) with live animals! Come join us!
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MADE LEGO CAMP A SUCCESS!
We had a fantastic LEGO Camp this year with daily reminders to be built in Christ, our sure foundation! Thank you to all of you for making it the beautiful experience that it is! Whether you donated time, talent, or treasure, it was put to good use and was easily seen and appreciated. And for the work that started many months ago, we would like to specifically thank Anne Inman for her leadership and organization; Julie Piercefield for the decorating, and for planning and developing the various crafts and activities; Karen Rigsbee, Deb Milam, and Tresa Kautz for the lesson planning and daily schedules; Karen Striegel for managing the kitchen and snacks.
CHOPPED CHALLENGE CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to our Chopped Challenge Team of Karen Striegel, Portia Erickson, Tom and Shirley Hanna, and Stephanie Hanson! They prepared well, won the first round, and made it to the finals this year along with contributing generously to this special Family Promise fundraiser. Calvary’s contribution was $977.00! We’ve attached a couple of pictures. Thank you for supporting them and Family Promise!
YOUTH GROUP KICKOFF
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 2! We’ll start the year off with food, fun and fellowship at Arbuckle Park at 6:00pm! Invite your friends! Please RSVP to Jill Robertson (shepherdskid1@gmail.com) by July 29.
BAKING DISHES FOUND
Various containers and baking dishes have been left in the kitchen. If something might belong to you, please check the “Lost and Found” box outside of the church office.
COMMUNITY LUNCH – SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS
On the second Saturday of each month, we host our Community Lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through our local food pantries. We’d love to have you volunteer by donating, helping, and/or socializing at our next one on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00am til 1:00pm! Check out the Missions table for details. Hope to see you there!
COMMUNITY LUNCH – SNACK BAG NEED
At the Community Lunch, we like to send everyone home with a snack bag. We are in need of granola bars, beef sticks, and trail mix for that. If you are able to help out in this way, please drop them off in the church office or in the church kitchen. Thank you for your generosity!
SUMMER CHOIR
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Summer Choir is a wonderful, low-commitment opportunity to sing together during the summer months. We will meet on alternating Sunday mornings at 9:00 am to learn an anthem that we will sing during the 10:00 am worship service. There are no Wednesday evening rehearsals through the summer.
Our Summer Choir dates are:
• This Sunday, July 26
• August 9
• August 23
Please note that there will be no Summer Choir September 6. We will resume our regular Wednesday evening rehearsals on September 9. Signing up is not required during the summer! Feel free to invite friends to join us as well. Everyone is welcome.
JULY MISSION FOCUS – KINDNESS KITCHEN
Our kitchen ministry has been busy feeding people’s stomachs and souls for quite a while. What does the Kindness Kitchen do? Some of the items are our monthly Community Meals and Young Family Meals, providing food and funds to Family Promise and to our trailer park families that we support, along with making meals for our sick and shut-ins. In addition to gifts and donations, volunteers are essential to our mission! Food and fellowship go hand-in-hand and are an important part of our Christian Hospitality! Even if you can’t cook, we can always use servers, cleaners and folks who fellowship with those we serve. Interested? Please contact Karen Striegel at KarenStriegel5@gmail.com. We’re happy to get you involved in the numerous opportunities to feed the Christian connections that we are cultivating!
JULY CLASSICS LUNCHEON
Aloha! Ready for a luau? Bring friends to this party on Tuesday, July 28 at Noon and wear your favorite tropical attire! It always helps us to know how many to expect, so if you can, RSVP at the Mission table at church or contact the church office. Aloha!
MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY RESUMES IN AUGUST
Pastor Michelle’s Monday Morning Bible study will resume August 31. We will study Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. It will be a 12-week class (August 31 to November 30, skipping September 7 and October 12) from 10:00am-11:30am in the Conference Room. Let us know if you need a book ordered. Cost for the book is $20.00. If paying by check, please include “Monday morning Bible study book” in the memo.
CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our Children and Youth Sunday School Classes will resume on August 2, 2026. If you are interested in helping as a Sunday School teacher with either group, please contact the office today. Your help is greatly appreciated.
CANS OF SODA
The Craft Fair may seem like a long way off, but hopefully you’ve got it on your calendar already! (October 10!) We are once again planning to sell donated 12oz cans of (only) Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite. If you would like to donate, why not take advantage of the sales that happen around Labor Day? We will collect and store your donations here. Thank you for helping in this way!
