Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, July 15, 2026

Dear Calvary Family,

What was the purpose of the yellow brick road in the movie, The Wizard of Oz? The road functioned as a narrative tool to guide the main character, Dorothy and her little dog, Toto. She needed to know how to get safely from Munchkinland to the Emerald City. Following the road meant that she could arrive at the Wizard of Oz and he could get her home.

Our streets in Brownsburg are not paved with gold. (Darn!) Nor are our roads covered in yellow LEGO bricks! (Rats!) However, with the B&O Trail, we have lots of walking areas among our town and county parks. Pathways make a difference. Paths matter!

Pathways move us from here to there geographically. Even more so, pathways guide us in our spiritual growth and deepening of our faith. As Paul writes his description of discipleship in Ephesians 4:15, “…we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ…” Pathways guide us in our growth! Each of our pathways are unique, just as we are each made special by God, but the importance is that we journey forward in our continued growth, learning, and development as a follower of Jesus.

As we prepare for our LEGO Camp week, join us in person or online this Sunday for a conversation about the pathway of discipleship and what that means as each of us journey home to Jesus.

With the eyes of our hearts enlightened with the hope of Christ Jesus,
Pastor Michelle

Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:

MEN’S BREAKFAST
Our next men’s group breakfast will be held in Fellowship Hall this Saturday, July 18. Coffee will be on at 8:30am! A delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon, juice, and fruit will be served at 9:00am followed by a devotional and fellowship. If you would like to lead the opening prayer or the devotional, please contact Dave Ferguson or the church office. All are welcome!

SUNDAY MORNING HELP NEEDED ASAP!
As summer begins, we are looking for adult and youth volunteers to help in both the AV Booth or in the nursery during a Sunday service. Training will be provided! If you’d like to find out more about either opportunity, please contact the office today! Office@CalvaryUnited.org or 317-852-2541.

BROWNSBURG SCHOOLS’ FASTTRACK – THANK YOU!
Thanks to your generosity, Calvary collected 15,760 pencils to donate to Brownsburg’s FASTTRACK program! We collected 10,000 in less than a week! Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing in this way!

THANK YOU, LEGO CAMP VOLUNTEERS!
Thank you to all who have signed up to volunteer! If you were unable to attend the either of the training sessions, please contact Anne Inman at anneinman1@hotmail.com before this Sunday, July 19, 2026. She has important information and instructions to share with you.

LEGO CAMP IS ALMOST HERE!
Our much anticipated LEGO Camp is almost here! Camp is next week, Monday through Wednesday, 9:00am until Noon. We need to be mindful that families will be dropping off children beginning at 8:30am and picking up at noon. Please try to avoid the front driveway during those times. We want to keep everyone safe! Thank you.

LEGO CAMP GIVING TREE
Our LEGO Camp giving tree is still “ripe for the picking”! There are a few items left for purchase.
To participate, simply take a leaf from the Giving Tree and sign up on the sheet located at the mission table. Please note “LEGO Camp” in the memo portion of your check. It costs approximately $8000 each summer to make LEGO Camp possible. Your generosity helps ensure that every child can experience a week filled with creativity, faith, and fun. Thank you for helping us build something special, one brick at a time. Please turn in all donations by Sunday, June 28th. Financial donations will be accepted through July 26, 2026. (Please indicate “LEGO Camp” in the memo portion of your check.) Any questions, please contact Anne Inman at anneinman1@hotmail.com or contact the church office. Thank you in advance for helping us make this a successful LEGO Camp for so many.

YOUTH GROUP KICKOFF
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 2! We’ll start the year off with food, fun and fellowship at Arbuckle Park at 6:00pm! Invite your friends! Please RSVP to Jill Robertson (shepherdskid1@gmail.com) by July 29.

SUMMER CHOIR
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Summer Choir is a wonderful, low-commitment opportunity to sing together during the summer months. We will meet on alternating Sunday mornings at 9:00 am to learn an anthem that we will sing during the 10:00 am worship service. There are no Wednesday evening rehearsals through the summer.
Our Summer Choir dates are: July 26, August 9, August 23.
Please note that there will be no Summer Choir September 6. We will resume our regular Wednesday evening rehearsals on September 9. Signing up is not required during the summer! Feel free to invite friends to join us as well. Everyone is welcome.

JULY MISSION FOCUS – KINDNESS KITCHEN
Our kitchen ministry has been busy feeding people’s stomachs and souls for quite a while. What does the Kindness Kitchen do? Some of the items are our monthly Community Meals and Young Family Meals, providing food and funds to Family Promise and to our trailer park families that we support, along with making meals for our sick and shut-ins. In addition to gifts and donations, volunteers are essential to our mission! Food and fellowship go hand-in-hand and are an important part of our Christian Hospitality! Even if you can’t cook, we can always use servers, cleaners and folks who fellowship with those we serve. Interested? Please contact Karen Striegel at KarenStriegel5@gmail.com. We’re happy to get you involved in the numerous opportunities to feed the Christian connections that we are cultivating!

JULY CLASSICS LUNCHEON
Aloha! Ready for a luau? Bring friends to this party on Tuesday, July 28 at Noon and wear your favorite tropical attire! It always helps us to know how many to expect, so if you can, RSVP at the Mission table at church or contact the church office. Aloha!

ALTAR GUILD
The seasonal banners and decorations in the Sanctuary are put in place by our Altar Guild. This group meets as needed, typically on a weekday morning seasonally, to do this. They would love a few more hands to help with this. If interested, please contact the office or Beth Schermer.

COMMUNITY LUNCH – SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS
On the second Saturday of each month, we host our Community Lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through our local food pantries. We’d love to have you volunteer by donating, helping, and/or socializing at our next one on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00am til 1:00pm! Check out the Missions table for details. Hope to see you there!

MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY RESUMES IN AUGUST
Pastor Michelle’s Monday Morning Bible study will resume August 31. We will study Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. It will be a 12-week class (August 31 to November 30, skipping September 7 and October 12) from 10:00am-11:30am in the Conference Room. Let us know if you need a book ordered. Cost for the book is $20.00. If paying by check, please include “Monday morning Bible study book” in the memo.

CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our Children and Youth Sunday School Classes have ended for the summer. If you are interested in helping as a Sunday School teacher with either group starting in August, please contact the office today.

CANS OF SODA
The Craft Fair may seem like a long way off, but hopefully you’ve got it on your calendar already! (October 10!) We are once again planning to sell donated 12oz cans of Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite. If you would like to donate, why not take advantage of the sales that happen around Labor Day? We will collect and store your donations here. Thank you for helping in this way!
