Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, May 27, 2026
Dear Calvary Family,
You might have asked yourself, “So, what’s up with the District Superintendent guest preaching this weekend?”
Well, way back in January Dr. Maiko asked me about getting on our schedule to come and guest preach before he rotates off the Indiana Conference cabinet and begins his new role in community outreach. And this Sunday was the best date available between his schedule and our various preaching series. Little did we know back then that we would be having a farewell and gratitude reception for Pastor Jolita and her family on the same day! But here we are!
I am delighted that Dr. Maiko will bring the Word and assist in our tradition of a 5th Sunday healing and anointing service as we offer gratitude and good wishes to the Erbele family!
Here is a little bit of biographical information about our district superintendent:
Saneta Maiko, Ph.D. is a former John Templeton Research Fellow with Indiana University School of Medicine (2017-2019). His clinical research investigated the role of spirituality and religion on the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of metastatic cancer patients.
An experienced ordained clergy of the United Methodist, Dr. Maiko is the founder and former executive director of Crime Victim Care of Allen County (Amani Family Services), Chaplain Researcher at Indiana University Health. Dr. Maiko has many years of serving churches and teaching gender and diversity management at Purdue University. He is a respected leader in training Intercultural Competence for Law Enforcement, Social Agencies, Businesses, and Healthcare Systems.
Dr. Maiko is Nationally licensed as an Intercultural Development Qualified Administrator and is nationally board certified as a healthcare chaplain. Dr. Maiko is a recipient of several honors and awards. He has authored a book and several articles in medical, leadership, chaplaincy, and youth journals. He is married to Beatrice. They are both blessed with three daughters and a son.
But perhaps the most important question is, “what’s Dr. Maiko’s favorite sport?” Hint- it is the one he coaches.
Come join us this Sunday as he preaches about What a Mighty God We Serve who heals! See you for worship and immediately following for our reception for the Erbele family.
With the eyes of our hearts enlightened with the hope in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Michelle
Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:
SUNDAY, MAY 31 GET-TOGETHER
You are invited to a “Thanks and Appreciation” event for Pastor Jolita and the Erbele family this Sunday immediately following worship in Fellowship Hall. Pastor Jolita has been instrumental in moving us forward with missions, outreach, youth and family ministry, preaching and so much more. Let’s make this a day of blessings for the Erbeles!
Some of you have asked how you can be involved. You are invited to share a card and possibly a financial gift of appreciation with Pastor Jolita and her family.

Our Summer Choir dates are:

CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL

YOUTH GROUP “END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR” CELEBRATION
This Sunday, May 31, our youth will be celebrating the end of the school year with some special activities. Food will be provided. Plan to be here from 5pm-7:30pm. Bring a friend! Let Pastor Jolita know if you’ll be there!
KEEP OUR FLORA BEAUTIFUL
Spring has sprung and we are in need of volunteers to care for our lovely outdoor flowers and plants on a regular basis. They need attention every other day. If you are able to give any amount of time to this ministry, please contact the church office or Brenda Caron for specifics.
JOIN THE COLUMBARIUM COMMITTEE
Are you interested in learning more about the Columbarium and Memorial Gardens that are developing so beautifully outside the windows at church? A great way to learn more is to be a part of the committee! The committee meets only every other month at 4:00pm here at church to discuss items that come up, with the next meeting on August 4. If you’d like to find out more, contact Tom Hanna at skhtgh@tds.net today.
COMMUNITY LUNCH – PULLED PORK
On the second Saturday of each month, we host our Community Lunch for members of the community who have been invited at the Blessing Boxes around town and through our local food pantries. We’d love to have you volunteer by donating, helping, and/or socializing at our next one on Saturday, June 13, from 11:00am til 1:00pm! Sign up at the Mission Table or contact the office. Hope to see you there!
COMMUNITY LUNCH SNACK BAGS
When we host the Community Lunch, we send a snack bag home with those who attend. We are running low on items, so if you would like to donate, we are looking for snacks that won’t melt in the heat. That would include items such as beef sticks, granola or protein bars, and fruit snacks. They may be dropped off in the box on the Mission Table.
MAY MISSION FOCUS
Our May monthly mission focus is our third annual LEGO Camp! This camp was created in place of the VBS camps of previous years and is extremely popular, using the theme of building and sharing our faith. Monies collected will help fund all the various parts of this outreach, including crafts, decorations, snacks, scholarships, and more! Thank you for your support and we’d love to have you join us! Find out more here…
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR LEGO CAMP!
In order for LEGO Camp to be a success, we need LOTS of volunteers! Those interested must be high school age or older. *We are specifically needing several interested in leading a group. Please prayerfully consider helping in this way!* If you are willing to lead a group, there will be teacher training on Saturday, June 20, 10am-11:30am or Sunday, June 28, 11:15am-12:45pm. A recent background check will be required for those 18 and older. Sign-up sheets are available at the Mission Table or contact the office. Volunteer registration deadline is June 15, 2026. Let’s make this the best LEGO Camp yet!
LEGO CAMP GIVING TREE
Our LEGO CAMP is coming soon, and we invite you to be a part of making it a meaningful and joyful experience for our children and youth! Through our Giving Tree, you have the opportunity to support LEGO Camp in a variety of ways:
* Donate drinks and snacks
* Contribute LEGOS
* Sponsor a youth leader
* Sponsor a camper

* Sponsor the live animal show
* Make a financial donation
* And more

MESSIAH LUTHERAN’S FOOD PANTRY AND THE MEIJER “SIMPLY GIVE” SPRING CAMPAIGN
Our neighbor, Messiah Lutheran Church, has been given the opportunity to partner with the newly built Meijer store in Brownsburg. From May 6th, when the store opens, through June 27th, Meijer customers may add a “$10 Simply Give” donation card at checkout and all of the donations during this time will go only to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry. The donation is converted into a Meijer food-only gift card for the Food Pantry to purchase food.
Additionally, when done on Saturday, June 20th, for every $10 Simply Donation card a customer adds to their purchase on Meijer will DOUBLE MATCH the donation, adding an additional $20. That means Messiah’s Food Pantry will receive $30 for each Simply Give donation card purchased that day.
Important to note: Only cards purchased at the Brownsburg Meijer will go to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry. You can help us feed our neighbors in Brownsburg in this way. Please share this opportunity with your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives as every dollar will make a difference to Messiah Lutheran’s Food Pantry.
