United Methodists

What does it mean to be a united methodist

United Methodist Churches of Indiana

The Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church provides leadership, resources, and support for more than 700 congregations ranging in size from 20 to 8,000 members in 10 districts across the state of Indiana.

Bishop Julius C. Trimble is our current episcopal leader of the Indiana Area. The Indiana Conference is part of the North Central Jurisdiction, which encompasses Annual Conferences in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

OUR MISSION

The Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church will make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by equipping its local churches for ministry and by providing a connection for ministry beyond the local church; all to the glory of God.

VISION

We will be a connection of vibrant congregations with fruitful leaders and faithful disciples transforming the world by doing no harm, doing good, and staying in love with God.

HISTORY & CONNECTION

The Indiana Conference is a part of The United Methodist Church (www.umc.org) with more than 11 million members in 119 annual and central Conferences worldwide (8.3 million members in 63 annual conferences in the U.S.). The United Methodist Church and its predecessor denominations trace their history in Indiana back to 1801 when Methodist circuit-riding preachers entered the Indiana Territory crossing the Ohio River in the southern part of the state.

CORE PROCESS

We will discover, develop and deploy fruitful leaders for vibrant congregations.

  • Clergy and lay leaders will feel affirmed, equipped and accountable to the mission.
  • Lay and clergy leaders will live their sense of call to ministry both within and beyond the church.
  • Leadership at all levels of the Indiana Conference will work through mission-focused teams.

VALUES

We believe God is leading us as individuals, as congregations and as a Conference to move from saving our institution to participating in the reign of God. We are moving:?

  • From inward-focused to outward-focused ministry,
  • From looking for differences to celebrating diversity,
  • From being preference-driven to being purpose-centered, and
  • From divisions to connection.
