Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, May 21, 2025

Dear Calvary Family,

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.”
Paul wrote these words to the faith family, to the church. It is not easy to act the way God is asking us to act toward each other. It is hard to serve, worship, be in meetings, pray, and be kind with those who are different and strange. But, I think it is even harder at home. Who knows you the best? Knows your worst? I think it is family. What I was led to this Sunday is that we need to make sure we are not double-faced. Nice, smiley, polite, loving, and caring during the couple hours at church, but we go home and as we change our pretty clothes to comfy ones, we also change to who we really are. Are we listening, telling the truth, forgiving, and speaking kindly to each other? What sin is hiding in us and we let grow? Ephesians 4:27 says, “And do not make room for the devil.” Any “open space” for the devil is too much open space. Pray that the light of God’s love shines to us through His word so we can be healed, be forgiven, and be able to be kind to one another.

May our words give grace to those who hear,
Pastor Jolita

Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:

YOUTH GROUP UPDATES
This Sunday, May 25, leadership training will continue for all of our teens, starting at 6:00pm. Youth Group will also celebrate the start of summer with a trip to Splash Island on June 1! RSVP to Pastor Jolita for more information! (JErbele@CalvaryUnited.org)

THIS SUNDAY’S EVENTS
The Friendship Sunday School Class will not meet this Sunday because of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. However, before heading out the door after the service, the Horizons Sunday School Class invites everyone to fellowship hall to celebrate our 2025 high school graduate, Mackenzie Noland! There will be cake and other finger food, along with a box to collect your well wishes. (Note cards will be available there.)
Both Friendship and Horizons classes will resume on June 1. The Friendship class will continue with Chapter 4 of Bill Schwein’s book, “Why Do I Always Get the Green One?”
Children’s and Youth Sunday School classes are over for the summer until August 3. If you’re interested in joining the team of teachers, email Lisa at office@calvaryunited.org.

UPCOMING VACATION
Pastor Michelle will be taking vacation time and will be away from the office May 24 through May 31. If you need anything, please feel free to reach out to Pastor Jolita or the office that week.

CLASSICS LUNCHEON
It’s a green flag for the luncheon this Tuesday, May 27, at Noon in Fellowship Hall. The lunch will be themed around the Indy500 so race on in with your friends and neighbors! Bring a favorite tailgating side or dessert and $5 to help cover the cost. RSVP at the Mission table on Sunday or by contacting the church office!

LEGO CAMP REGISTRATION UNDERWAY FOR PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS
LEGO Camp is happening Monday, July 21 through Wednesday, July 23 from 8:00am until 1:00pm. We need many people to volunteer as we expect approximately 150 campers this year. Volunteers may sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F45ABAC2AA3F85-56762360-lego. A registration form for campers is available here: https://calvaryunited.org/summer-camp/. Paper registration forms for both volunteers and campers are also available on the Mission Table in the hallway across from the office.
And if you’re volunteering, please note 11:15 Sunday, June 29 on your calendar. There will be a meeting for all volunteers in the sanctuary.

LEGOS WANTED
The Missions & Outreach team will have a couple of bins in the narthex to collect LEGOs again ahead of this year’s camp in July. Cleaning out a closet? Child has outgrown them? We’ll take them! As a side note: we would prefer actual LEGOs because the off-brands do not lock well with LEGOs. Thank you for your help and donations!

SUMMER CHOIR
Have you thought about giving Choir a try? Summer Choir is the perfect way to do that! There’s no weekday rehearsal. Instead, meet in the choir room at 9:00 am ahead of the service. We’ll meet June 8, June 22, July 6, August 3, and August 17. Come when you can! If you have any questions, reach out to Mark on Sunday or at mherris@calvaryunited.org.

COMMUNION STEWARDS
We are in need of a couple more Communion servers to help on the first Sunday of the month, ideally every other month. If you are willing to help serve, please contact the office (office@CalvaryUnited.org).

WEDNESDAY PRAYER TIMES
Have you considered regularly spending time with others in prayer? Our church has two prayer groups that meet on Wednesdays in the Conference Room. Women’s Prayer Warrior time is at 9:30am and Men’s Prayer Warrior time is at 6:00pm. No RSVP needed! If you have questions, please email Bill or Frances Unruh at hoosierlord@yahoo.com.

LEARNING ACADEMY OPENINGS
Calvary Learning Academy has a few openings in the Toddler Room (walking age), the Pre-K class, and the Kinderskills class for the 2025-2026 school year. We would love to have your families and friends join in the learning fun. Please share the word with others looking for a Christian learning environment! Reach out to us with any questions at (317) 852-2594. The registration form is online at https://calvaryunited.org/registration/. We look forward to hearing from you!
