Midweek Meditation: Wednesday, May 14, 2025

Dear Calvary Family,

The two most significant decisions a person will ever make in their life are the following: 1) to accept or not accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord over your life, and 2) the choice of your husband or wife. And often those decisions intersect and interact with one another in powerful, pivotal ways. The ancient God-oriented wisdom of Ecclesiastes provides a beautiful metaphor for married couples and their commitment to put God in Jesus at the center of their relationship.

See you this third Sunday of May as we continue our conversation to fight FOR our families as we pay attention to how married couples are called to be united in faith. The writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us “Two are better than one,” (4:9a). And yet, those couples are stronger yet because… “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (4:12b). Whether you are single, widowed, divorced, or married, join us on Sunday as we help the marriages which are part of our church family and extended families be woven together in Christ. He is our sure and certain foundation for each family. May we support and encourage one another to fight for what matters most!

Let us be Hearers and Doers,
Pastor Michelle

Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:

YOUTH GROUP UPDATES
This Sunday and next Sunday, May 18 and 25, leadership training will take place for all of our teens, starting at 6:00pm. Youth Group will also celebrate the start of summer with a trip to Splash Island on June 1! RSVP to Pastor Jolita for more information! (JErbele@CalvaryUnited.org)

YOUTH AND CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL
This Sunday, May 18, is the last Sunday for Children’s and Youth Sunday School classes for the summer until August 3.

BIRTHDAY WISHES
Our dear friend Marvin Ferguson will turn 98 on the 28th. We want to share our love and prayers with him in a special way. Stop by the Love Note table in the narthex to sign a big birthday card for him the next time you’re in church!

EUCHRE
Up for a friendly game of cards? Join us this Saturday for Euchre in Fellowship Hall 6:00pm-8:00pm.

LEGO GRANT RECEIVED
Celebrate with us the award of a grant for $4,250 for LEGO Camp! Thank you to Anne Inman, Pastor Jolita, and the Mission Team for applying for this, the United Methodist Foundation for the grant, and Rev. Glenn Howell for his visit to award this to our pastors. Please see the attached picture!

LEGO CAMP REGISTRATION UNDERWAY FOR PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS
LEGO Camp is happening Monday, July 21 through Wednesday, July 23 from 8:00am until 1:00pm. We need many people to volunteer as we expect approximately 150 campers this year. Volunteers may sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F45ABAC2AA3F85-56762360-lego. A registration form for campers is available here: https://calvaryunited.org/summer-camp/. Paper registration forms for both volunteers and campers are also available on the Mission Table in the hallway across from the office.
And if you’re volunteering, please note 11:15 Sunday, June 29 on your calendar. There will be a meeting for all volunteers in the sanctuary.

LEGOS WANTED
The Missions & Outreach team will have a couple of bins in the narthex to collect LEGOs again ahead of this year’s camp in July. Cleaning out a closet? Child has outgrown them? We’ll take them! As a side note: we would prefer actual LEGOs because the off-brands do not lock well with LEGOs. Thank you for your help and donations!

SUMMER CHOIR
Have you thought about giving Choir a try? Summer Choir is the perfect way to do that! There’s no weekday rehearsal. Instead, meet in the choir room at 9:00 am ahead of the service. We’ll meet June 8, June 22, July 6, August 3, and August 17. Come when you can! If you have any questions, reach out to Mark on Sunday or at mherris@calvaryunited.org.

COMMUNION STEWARDS
We are in need of a couple of Communion servers to help on the first Sunday of the month, ideally every other month. If you are willing to help serve, please contact the office (office@CalvaryUnited.org).

WEDNESDAY PRAYER TIMES
Have you considered regularly spending time with others in prayer? Our church has two prayer groups that meet on Wednesdays in the Conference Room. Women’s Prayer Warrior time is at 9:30am and Men’s Prayer Warrior time is at 6:00pm. No RSVP needed! If you have questions, please email Bill or Frances Unruh at hoosierlord@yahoo.com.

CLASSICS LUNCHEON
It’s a green flag for the luncheon Tuesday, May 27, at Noon in Fellowship Hall. The lunch will be themed around the Indy500 so race on in with your friends and neighbors! Bring a favorite tailgating side or dessert and $5 to help cover the cost. RSVP by calling the office or at the Mission table today!

LEARNING ACADEMY OPENINGS
Calvary Learning Academy has a few openings in the Toddler Room (walking age), the Pre-K class, and the Kinderskills class for the 2025-2026 school year. We would love to have your families and friends join in the learning fun. Please share the word with others looking for a Christian learning environment! Reach out to us with any questions at (317) 852-2594. The registration form is online at https://calvaryunited.org/registration/. We look forward to hearing from you!
