Midweek Meditation: Monday, April 23, 2025

Dear Calvary Family,

Have you ever locked your car keys inside your car? The keys are safe, but you can’t go anywhere! You are locked in the place you are. You and the keys are stuck!

The Disciples thought they were locked and safe in a room. It was very scary out there. Hopefully, the locked doors will keep them from the danger, safer inside than out there. But who will replace the fear? Who will give them life and courage?

How long can we stay locked in? What are we afraid of? This second Sunday of Easter I wonder how well our locks work? Are you sure you have locked all the doors? Are we truly safe? Do the locks help us with the fear? Do we know that Easter has come and we have Jesus who appears despite the locked doors? Why does He? To meet you and me in our biggest fears and to bring peace that replaces the fear! Believing Thomas, not doubting Thomas, is the best way to follow to believe. I know I doubt. I hope you are not an anonymous doubter. Are you able to admit your doubts? Ask hard questions?

Jesus invites all who have fear and questions to come to Him. Let the risen Jesus speak the peace to you! And you know what happens to the words that Jesus says? They become reality. Come hear Jesus say, “Peace be with you” and see and experience the risen Jesus in your life.

Not an anonymous doubter,
Pastor Jolita

Here’s what’s happening in the life of our Church and how you can get involved:

CURIOUS ABOUT THE COLUMBARIUM?
We will have a table set up in the narthex this Sunday, April 27, with information about the Columbarium niches and the Memorial Garden area. Stop by after the service with your questions!

MONDAY NIGHT WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY UPDATES
Women’s Monday Night Bible Study will not be meeting this coming Monday, April 28.
Starting the following week, Monday, May 5, the group will begin a new six-week study about the book of Philippians. Contact Beth Wright (317-340-6447) or Sue Moritz (847-902-6070) if you’d like to reserve a study guide book. The cost of the book is $14, unless that is a hardship. Meet in the Conference Room at 6:30pm!

“RUN FOR THE ROSES”
Our monthly Classics Luncheon takes place next Tuesday, April 29 at noon. Wear your fanciest hat or tie and join us as we celebrate the Kentucky Derby this month. Bring a friend for Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders, Pimento Cheese, and Derby Pie. Side dishes are always welcome or a small donation to help defray the costs. If you’d like to RSVP, call the office (317-852-2541) or sign up at the Missions Table.

APRIL MISSIONS FOCUS
Our monthly mission focus is Mental Health Programs. Because the need is so great, we will be working with the Willow Center to build a program for Teens and Adults. Contributions to this will help defray the cost for instructors and workshop materials.

LEARNING ACADEMY OPENINGS
Calvary Learning Academy has a few openings in the Toddler Room (walking age), the Pre-K class, and the Kinderskills class for the 2025-2026 school year. We would love to have your families and friends join in the learning fun. Please share the word with others looking for a Christian learning environment! Reach out to us with any questions at (317) 852-2594. The registration form is online at https://calvaryunited.org/registration/. We look forward to hearing from you!

KINDNESS KITCHEN
Our church often shares food in various ways, and one way is the monthly “Kindness Kitchen”. Our next “kitchen time” is May 4 at 11:20. Join us to find out more!

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES AND YOUTH GROUP
All Sunday School classes and Youth Group will resume this Sunday. If you haven’t tried a class out and are curious, stop by this week!

FRIENDSHIP SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS
The Friendship Class invites you to join them on May 4 as they begin a multi-month discussion of Rev. Bill Schwein’s most recent book, “WHY DO I ALWAYS GET THE GREEN ONE: And other questions I ask myself.” The book is about life questions, prayer, hope, fulfillment, repentance, forgiveness, being kind, what matters, and other topics about Christian faith. This class meets each week in the choir room at 11:11 a.m. following Sunday worship. All are welcome to attend. The cost of the book is $10 and will be available during class. The book is also available at Amazon.

LEGO CAMP REGISTRATION UNDERWAY FOR PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS
LEGO Camp is happening Monday, July 21 through Wednesday, July 23 from 8:00am until 1:00pm. We need many people to volunteer as we expect approximately 150 campers this year. Registration forms for both volunteers and campers are available on the Mission Table in the hallway across from the office. A registration form for campers is also available here: https://calvaryunited.org/summer-camp/.

A CALVARY COOKBOOK FUNDRAISER – LAST CHANCE TO SHARE A FAVORITE RECIPE!
To help raise money for Missions and Outreach, we would like to sell a cookbook at the Craft Fair this year. Think about a favorite recipe you can share! We would love to have a recipe from everyone and are hoping for a minimum of 150 recipes! You may place it in the collection tray on the Mission table in the hallway or email it to the church office (office@CalvaryUnited.org) by this Sunday. Thank you! We can’t wait to see this come together!

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Thursday, May 1, is the 74th annual National Day of Prayer. Join others in Hendricks County at IU West Hospital in the main dining area near the main entrance at 7:30am until 8:15am for prayer representing the various areas of the county. If you’d like to share in breakfast as well ahead of the prayer time, the cost is $11 and begins at 7:00am. Reserve seating is available: email NDP.HendricksCounty1@gmail.com.
